Prosecutions Officer

Temporary contract: 19th October - 15th January 2027 
Location: Local Council – Eastern Suburbs
Hours: 38 hours per week 
Rate: $52.88 per hour plus super 

This is a great opportunity for someone with local government enforcement and prosecution experience to manage a varied caseload and play an important role in supporting the preparation and progression of prosecution matters.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Manage an individual caseload efficiently, including preparing complex prosecution matters and associated documentation.
• Prepare legal documents including affidavits, warrants, charge sheets, summons and other prosecution-related documents.
• Research, investigate and analyse complex matters as requested by the Head of Prosecutions and Compliance Legal Counsel.
• Prepare and issue charge sheets to bring alleged offenders before courts and tribunals.
• Prepare correspondence relating to enforcement matters, infringement notices and other prosecution matters.
• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure matters are prepared accurately and within required timeframes.

Key Criteria: 

• Local government experience and a strong understanding of the legal processes, procedures and legislation relating to local government enforcement and prosecutions.
• Demonstrated experience working with prosecution and enforcement matters.
• Familiarity with the Magistrates’ Court system and the prosecution of matters through the court process.
• Strong reading, comprehension, research and writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear and accurate legal documentation.
• Well-developed typing, letter writing and précis writing skills.
• Experience using Pathway will be highly regarded.
