We are seeking a skilled Tax & Customs Manager to oversee tax and customs matters for our operations in Japan. This role involves acting as the primary contact for tax-related issues, ensuring compliance, and managing relationships with external consultants and authorities.
About the Role:
As the Tax & Customs Manager, you will be responsible for handling all tax and customs matters in Japan (excluding personal tax issues). You will act as a liaison between the business unit, external consultants, and regional tax authorities. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure full corporate tax compliance and to manage exposure to tax and customs risks effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Primary Contact: Serve as the main point of contact for all tax and customs matters, including liaising with external consultants and regional tax heads.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure full corporate tax compliance, including the submission of tax accounting, WHT compliance, and preparation of tax computations and returns for both direct and indirect taxes.
- Internal Communication: Provide timely and proactive advice to senior management and internal stakeholders via internal communication or formal processes.
- Risk Management: Establish internal processes to manage exposure to tax and customs risks, provide timely alerts, and assist with special projects as needed.
- Tax Reporting: Oversee monthly tax reporting and coordinate with customs authorities.
- Transfer Pricing: Support the preparation of local transfer pricing documentation.
- Audit Management: Manage external tax audits and interface with fiscal authorities.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in providing tax advice, with experience in Big 4 firms or large multinational companies preferred. Experience with a diverse range of products and services is also desirable.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of general tax and tax accounting, with up-to-date understanding of the latest tax developments. Exposure to customs compliance is required.
- Skills: Excellent analytical skills, ability to understand complex business transactions, and capability to identify potential risks and suggest mitigating solutions.
- Communication: Strong communication skills with a good command of English, both written and verbal.
- Personal Attributes: Mature, persistent, and able to handle complex issues with a strategic approach.
