Hospital Medical Officer - General Stream (PGY3+)

An excellent opportunity is available for PGY3+ doctors to consolidate their clinical skills through a broad and well-supported general hospital medical officer programme in regional Victoria.

This 12-month position offers varied clinical exposure, structured supervision and access to education and professional development. Doctors will normally complete four 13-week rotations across a range of medical, surgical, emergency and specialty services.

Fixed term, 1 February 2027–6 February 2028

Potential Clinical Rotations Rotations may include:

• Emergency Medicine
• General Medicine
• General Surgery
• Mental Health and Psychiatry
• Rehabilitation Medicine
• Geriatric Medicine
• Intensive Care Medicine—part-time rotation only
• Leave Relief

Some rotations may be undertaken at affiliated regional health services, providing exposure to different clinical environments, communities and patient populations. Allocation of rotations will be subject to service requirements and availability, with every effort made to provide a varied and rewarding programme.

The Programme

The PGY3+ General Stream programme is designed to help doctors:

• Consolidate their assessment and clinical management skills
• Gain experience across a diverse range of specialties
• Develop greater confidence and professional independence
• Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Prepare for future vocational training and career pathways
• Gain experience within both major regional and smaller community health settings

Successful doctors will work within a modern healthcare environment offering comprehensive acute, medical, surgical, mental health, critical care, cancer, women’s and children’s services.

Essential Requirements Applicants must:

• Hold an MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
• Meet the requirements for appointment at PGY3 level or above
• Hold, or be eligible to hold, appropriate medical registration in Australia
• Possess full and unrestricted Australian working rights
• Demonstrate effective clinical, communication and teamwork skills
• Provide evidence of the required immunisation history before commencing employment
