Position Overview
We are seeking a well‑rounded and technically strong Senior Accountant with broad experience across individual, business, and complex tax matters. This role requires the ability to holistically review tax returns, identify gaps or errors, and apply sound tax strategy to ensure accurate, compliant, and optimised outcomes for clients.
You will work alongside like‑minded professionals in a collaborative environment, contributing to high‑quality client who are looked after in a financial planning capacity with outcomes and continuous improvement of their tax processes.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review Individual, Business, Company, Trust, and SMSF Tax Returns
Review completed Tax Returns to identify errors, omissions, inconsistencies, or areas requiring further clarification
Apply and document tax strategies appropriate to client circumstances
Understand and apply gearing strategies and related tax implications
Incorporate superannuation strategies, including identifying tax-deductible superannuation contributions, where appropriate
Liaise with clients to clarify information and obtain missing or incorrect data
Manage ATO lodgement processes and ensure compliance with deadlines and regulatory requirements
Stay up to date with tax legislation, ATO rulings, and compliance requirements
Work collaboratively with our professional team to deliver holistic client outcomes
Assess and validate depreciation schedules, including capital allowances and asset classifications
Identify errors, inconsistencies, or missed opportunities in tax positions and provide clear, actionable recommendations
Work closely with accountants and preparers to instruct, guide, and oversee amendments or updates to returns, ensuring all work is completed thoroughly and to a high standard
Provide clear and constructive feedback to improve technical accuracy and overall work quality across the team
Ensure all finalised ATO documents, notices of assessment, and supporting documentation are properly reviewed and provided to clients' post-lodgement
Ensure all work meets internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements
Act as a final sign-off point for reviewed work where appropriate
Stay up to date with current tax laws, rulings, and compliance requirements
Skills and Experience
Proven experience preparing and reviewing Individual, Company, Trust, and SMSF Tax Returns using accounting software such as Xero
Qualified CPA (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience
Strong experience reviewing:
Individual tax returns
Business tax returns (companies, partnerships)
Trusts and associated tax structures
SMSFs (financials and tax returns)
Depreciation and capital allowance schedules
Deep understanding of tax compliance and regulatory frameworks, including superannuation legislation
Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
Ability to identify risks and provide practical, commercially sound solutions
Strong communication skills, particularly in delivering clear instructions and constructive feedback to team members
Experience working in a collaborative advice environment
Strong understanding of Australian Tax Law and ATO compliance requirements
Demonstrated ability to analyse and critically review completed tax returns
Ability to identify tax planning opportunities
Solid understanding of superannuation, including concessional contribution rules
Practical knowledge of gearing and investment tax strategies
High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness
Qualifications
CPA qualification
Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce
