Emergency Medicine Specialist- Regional Hospital- North Island

About the Role
Our Whanganui based client is seeking a permanent, full-time Emergency Medicine Consultant to join our dynamic Emergency Department team from March 2026 (start date flexible).

In this role, you will:

• Provide clinical diagnosis and treatment in an acute setting.
• Participate in departmental meetings, teaching junior staff, and maintaining your own education and research.
• Work on a six-week rotating roster, averaging 40 hours per week, including a 30% non-clinical component for research, education, and leadership activities.

Typical ED shifts:

• Early: 07:30 – 15:30
• Mid: 11:00 – 19:00
• Late: 16:00 – 00:00 (on-call 00:00 – 07:30)

About the Hospital
This Hospital is a 138-bed secondary hospital operating under the Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM)framework. We serve a population of approximately 65,000 residents, plus 16,000 in surrounding districts.
The Emergency Department team includes:

• 9 Consultants/SMOs
• 12 RMOs, including 3 ED Registrars
• Dedicated ED nursing staff and strong multidisciplinary support.

They provide a six-bed critical care unit with tertiary support from Wellington Hospital for specialties such as cardiothoracics, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, and cardiology.

Eligibility
To be successful, you must:

• Hold or be eligible for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Possess FACEM or an equivalent overseas specialist qualification.
