The Role
This role plays a key leadership role in strengthening and growing partnerships with Traditional Custodians across Bush Heritage reserves and priority landscapes in South Australia. You will champion Bush Heritage’s commitment to a “right-way” approach to Caring for Country by fostering respectful partnerships, supporting conservation initiatives, and contributing to Aboriginal cultural capability across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and deepening relationships and partnerships with Traditional Custodians in the South Australian Arid Rangelands
- Supporting reserve and landscape managers to engage effectively with Traditional Custodians
- Facilitating co-developed conservation program and projects with Aboriginal partners, including Healthy Country Plans
- Collaborating with philanthropy, communications and corporate teams to secure resources for partnership
- Regular travel to regional and remote areas to build and maintain relationships
Skills and Experience
You are a natural community connector who has strong relationships within the SA Arid Rangelands, with a commitment to caring for country and nature conservation. You have experience building respectful, meaningful relationships and working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities particularly in regional and remote contexts and understand the contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal peoples in achieving cultural, social and environmental aspirations.
You also have:
- Strong connections or understanding of Traditional Custodian groups in the SA Arid Rangelands
- Demonstrated experience in developing genuine, respectful relationships with Aboriginal people
- Experience working across government, NGOs or other sectors to support Aboriginal-led outcomes
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience managing projects and budgets
- Confidence working independently and collaboratively across dispersed teams
- A current manual driver’s licence and willingness to travel
