Our client is driving a major collaborative movement in Indonesia, GRASP2030, which focuses on transforming food systems, reducing food loss, and optimizing supply chain efficiencies. They are currently seeking a highly skilled and culturally fluent technical expert to lead field implementation and data-driven interventions across the country.
Job Purpose
The Senior Food Specialist will lead the design and delivery of technical workstreams for GRASP2030 and related projects in Indonesia. Operating within a collaborative, multi-partner consortium model, this role provides hands-on technical capabilities across retail, manufacturing, processing, and hospitality/food service environments.
The successful candidate will act as a central delivery engine—generating high-quality evidence, supply-chain hotspot analyses, and operational insights to help businesses, funders, and strategic partners eliminate food waste and improve environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Evidence Generation: Lead technical assessments, operational diagnostics, intervention designs, and waste audits across diverse business environments. Utilize data measurement tools, digital capture systems, and dashboards to collect and present reliable evidence that meets strict accuracy standards.

Field Implementation & Project Management: Work directly with businesses to execute on-site pilots, trials, and case studies in settings like hotels, restaurants, canteens, factories, and waste facilities. Develop comprehensive workplans, operational protocols, and risk management frameworks while supervising external field enumerators or data collectors when necessary.

Stakeholder Engagement & Behaviour Change: Build trusted, culturally grounded relationships with Indonesian businesses at all levels—from frontline staff to senior executives. Facilitate workshops and training sessions to embed long-lasting behaviour changes and improved operational practices within local organizational contexts.

Consortium Collaboration & Advisory: Maintain close coordination and alignment with local partner networks (including IBCSD), technical partners, and international donors to manage overlapping priorities. Provide evidence-based insights to advise on future project designs, funding prospects, and scaling options.

Communication & Reporting: Produce clear, accessible technical reports, case studies, and data summaries for corporate, government, and funding stakeholders. Deliver confident communications in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.
Requirements & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Environmental Science, Food Technology, Sustainability, Engineering, Public Health, or a related technical discipline. A postgraduate qualification is desirable but not required.

Experience & Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of Indonesia’s food system challenges, specifically regarding food loss and waste across supply chains. Exposure to circular economy frameworks, packaging materials, and climate impacts is highly valued.

Languages: Native or professional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is required , alongside strong, professional English proficiency.

Key Skills: Ability to translate field findings into concrete business recommendations. Familiarity with digital data capture systems or basic GHG emissions calculations relevant to supply chains is a distinct advantage.

Certifications (Preferred): Professional certifications in food safety, waste auditing, GHG accounting, or Lean/Six Sigma are considered an asset.

Mobility & Dynamics: Must be based in Jakarta , willing to travel within Indonesia for field implementation , and comfortable managing regular virtual meetings with international teams across different time zones.
