Planning Officer

Public Sector People are currently working with a rural Shire Council in North-West Victoria seeking a Planning Officer to join their team on a temporary basis.

This is a great opportunity for a planner looking to gain further Local Government experience within a supportive rural council environment, managing a varied statutory planning caseload.

The Role As Planning Officer, you will be responsible for:

• Assessing and processing a range of planning permit applications.
• Providing planning advice to applicants, residents and internal stakeholders.
• Interpreting and applying the Victorian Planning Provisions and relevant Planning Scheme.
• Preparing reports, correspondence and recommendations.
• Undertaking site inspections and supporting broader statutory planning functions.
• Liaising with referral authorities and key stakeholders throughout the application process.

About You To be successful, you will ideally have:

• A qualification in Town Planning, Urban Planning or a related discipline.
• Previous statutory planning experience, ideally within Victorian Local Government.
• Knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Victorian Planning Provisions.
• Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
• Confidence managing stakeholders and providing clear planning advice.
• The ability to independently manage a caseload and competing priorities.
