This national not-for-profit membership organisation represents Australia’s agricultural sector. They support the long-term success of their members through advocacy, policy influence and industry engagement, representing the sector nationally across government, media and industry.
About the Opportunity
This role sits at the centre of the organisation’s external engagement and communications function, with a strong focus on media engagement and day-to-day management of the organisation’s media presence.
Reporting to the General Manager, Communications, you will lead integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies while also acting as a key point of contact for media. This is a hands-on role requiring regular interaction with journalists, proactive media outreach and responsive media management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Lead day-to-day media management, including handling inbound enquiries, proactive pitching and building relationships with journalists.
- Act as a key media contact and support spokesperson preparation.
- Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders, partners and influencers to drive alignment and advocacy.
- Develop high-quality communications materials including briefing notes, speeches, talking points, media releases, video scripts and stakeholder updates.
- Support issues and reputation management, providing advice on external positioning and risk.
- Create compelling content for owned and earned channels, including articles, reports and campaign communications.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure consistent and aligned external messaging.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations, communications or public affairs, with strong day-to-day media management exposure.
- Proven experience engaging directly with journalists, including responding to enquiries and proactive media outreach.
- Experience in government, corporate or industry association environments is highly regarded.
- Experience in or a strong understanding of the agriculture sector is essential.
- Strong experience in stakeholder and issues management within complex environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging.
- Confidence in engaging with senior leaders and representing organisations externally.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
- Collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
- Proficiency in business systems, including AI and CRM platforms.
