• Contract: 6 months, strong likelihood of extension, plus further SAP project work planned across the business over the next 12 months
• Project: SAP S/4HANA integration for a major systems rebuild
• Location: Auckland CBD
• Working Arrangement: Hybrid, 2 to 3 days in the office

About the Role
Most SAP contracts hand you someone else's mess and ask you to keep it standing. This one's different.

A large organisation, is rebuilding a core business system from the ground up, and they want the person who joins them to help set the technical standard for how it's built, not just follow whatever pattern was already there. Think new API design, real code quality, and the kind of foundational decisions that shape the next few years of work, not just the next few months.

You'll sit inside a technology practice of 20 people plus vendor partners, owning the SAP S/4HANA side of a system that talks to the rest of the business through APIs you design and document properly. If you're the kind of developer who can explain exactly why you built something a certain way, not just that it works, this is a team that will actually want to hear it.

You'll be treated as part of the team from day one, not kept on the outside. Contractors here are genuinely included in fortnightly practice days, team demos, and morning teas, not just brought in to sit in a corner and code.

And this isn't a one-and-done. There's a genuine pipeline of further SAP work planned here over the next year, so this contract is as much a foot in the door as it is a project in its own right.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and own SAP S/4HANA APIs consumed by other systems in the landscape
• Work across ABAP and ABAP OO development in a large enterprise SAP environment
• Apply SAP HANA platform development skills, including AMDP and SQLScript
• Deliver solid integration work across IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, and REST/SOAP APIs
• Apply strong debugging, performance tuning, and SAP development best practices
• Document and clearly communicate API contracts and integration decisions to other technical teams
• Bring a point of view to design discussions, and back it up

What We're Looking For

• Extensive ABAP experience (including ABAP OO), with strong S/4HANA experience prioritised over SAP CRM
• Solid SAP HANA platform development, including AMDP and SQLScript
• Strong integration experience across IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, and REST/SOAP APIs
• Proven performance tuning, debugging, and adherence to SAP best practices
• A high-level understanding of ABAP Cloud and extensibility concepts (deep hands-on experience isn't essential here, this is still new ground for most of the market)
• The ability to clearly explain and justify your technical thinking, this matters more than a long list of tools
• Comfortable working in an Agile delivery environment
