Randwick City Council is seeking a registered Building Surveyor to join its Building Certification and Fire Safety team. This is a senior technical position offering broad exposure across building compliance, certification, fire safety and essential services within one of Sydney’s most diverse coastal communities.
You will work alongside experienced Building Surveyors and Essential Services Officers, assessing building matters, conducting inspections and helping property owners achieve safe and compliant outcomes.
Council is open to candidates at different stages of their building surveying careers. You may already have broad experience across a range of building types, or you may hold restricted registration and be looking for the support and exposure needed to continue developing.

- Assess and investigate complex building and fire-safety matters.
- Support Council’s Essential Services and Fire Safety Program.
- Review fire-safety schedules and Annual Fire Safety Statements.
- Undertake inspections and assess compliance across Classes 2–9 buildings.
- Recommend appropriate building and fire-safety upgrades.
- Prepare and issue notices, orders, directions and regulatory correspondence.
- Interpret and apply the NCC/BCA, NSW legislation and relevant Australian Standards.
- Provide technical advice to colleagues, property owners and other stakeholders.
- Help resolve sensitive compliance matters through clear communication and practical solutions.
- Contribute to broader certification and regulatory work as Council continues to develop its capability.
About you

- Current registration as a Building Surveyor or Certifier in NSW.
- Experience applying the NCC/BCA and relevant NSW legislation.
- Exposure to Classes 2–9 buildings and complex fire-safety matters.
- The ability to manage investigations, inspections and regulatory action.
- Sound professional judgement and strong technical research skills.
- Confidence handling difficult or sensitive customer matters.
- A constructive approach to compliance focused on achieving safe outcomes.
- A genuine interest in continuing to develop their registration and technical capability.
