We are seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to lead all phases of the project lifecycle for a major Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0 program. This role will oversee project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure while managing system integrator engagement and coordinating across technical and business teams.
The Senior IT Project Manager will focus on resource planning, technical solution blueprinting, business process design, requirements clarification, financial tracking, vendor coordination, and end-to-end delivery within a complex IT environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project lifecycle activities including pre-planning, planning, execution, monitoring, and project closure for the AMI 2.0 program.
- Manage and coordinate system integrator engagement activities across technical and business workstreams.
- Prepare, analyze, and manage regular financial reports, tracking IT expenditures, variances, forecasts, and project financials.
- Develop comprehensive resource plans based on technical scope, including required roles, skillsets, effort estimates, and costs across integration, data, infrastructure, and testing workstreams.
- Support the development and refinement of high-level technical solution blueprints defining project scope, schedule, budget, infrastructure, data flows, and system interfaces.
- Plan and coordinate Planning & Analysis activities, including solution design validation, technical feasibility reviews, environment readiness, development sequencing, testing strategy, and deployment planning.
- Coordinate project activities across technical and business teams to ensure milestones, deliverables, solution designs, and requirements remain aligned.
- Facilitate business process mapping and requirements clarification to ensure alignment between functional needs and technical delivery.
- Track project scope against baseline requirements and support change control activities, including documenting scope changes, assessing impacts, and escalating risks as appropriate.
- Maintain traceability between business requirements, technical designs, project deliverables, milestones, and financial transactions.
- Identify project risks and opportunities and recommend corrective actions to maintain project progress and delivery objectives.
- Support procurement activities, vendor management, and contract negotiations related to IT and financial components of the program.
- Maintain accurate project documentation to support audit, compliance, financial tracking, and program governance requirements.
- Personally execute day-to-day project management deliverables while providing oversight and coordination across assigned workstreams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure with the ability to understand the overall technical landscape and identify potential delivery gaps.
- Proven experience managing large-scale IT programs or projects, including resource planning, solution blueprinting, implementation planning, and end-to-end delivery.
- 3+ years of large-scale IT program/project management experience within utilities or other regulated industries.
- Experience with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), smart grid, electric utility technology, or large-scale utility infrastructure projects.
- AMI 1.0 or AMI 2.0 experience preferred; at minimum, exposure to AMI 1.0 is desired.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, risk and issue management, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to quickly integrate into a fast-paced, complex program environment, absorb information, understand responsibilities, and deliver results with an appropriate level of direction.
- Strong combination of business acumen and technical proficiency, with the ability to translate stakeholder requirements into effective technology solutions.
- Ability to manage both strategic oversight and hands-on, day-to-day project management responsibilities.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and receptive to feedback with the ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience presenting or translating technical information to non-technical audiences.
- PMP certification.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and financial compliance within the utility or IT sectors.
- Strong experience with vendor management and IT contract negotiations.
