The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing all assigned maintenance duties safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

This position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, independent decision-making, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities, including working different shifts and overtime as needed. 

The technician must manage time effectively while communicating progress and maintenance needs with supervisors.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate the mechanical and electrical skills necessary to maintain efficient plant operations.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild plant equipment and systems to minimize downtime.
  • Repair and rebuild vacuum pumps, gearboxes, valves, steam regulating valves, pneumatic cylinders, and other pumps used throughout the facility.
  • Repair forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, conveying systems, mixing and drying equipment, chemical injection systems, air compressors, boiler systems, water systems, ammonia systems, packaging equipment, and material handling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and perform industrial electrical testing on 4–20 mA circuits, 12V, 24V, 48V, 120V, 240V, and 480V electrical systems, including switches, relays, motors, and control components.
  • Repair and maintain packaging systems, pressure systems, boilers, process equipment, and plant fixtures according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Monitor equipment performance and determine appropriate repairs or replacements.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance using maintenance management systems and equipment specifications.
  • Fabricate equipment and piping by interpreting equipment drawings, piping diagrams, and specifications.
  • Read and apply information from equipment manuals, technical documentation, and manufacturer resources.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with equipment installations, plant improvement projects, and system upgrades.
  • Perform equipment calibrations, including PLCs, valves, sensors, and related instrumentation.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in industrial maintenance practices.
  • Successfully pass a required written maintenance assessment with a minimum passing score of 75%.
  • Successfully complete required on-the-job qualification requirements within the designated training period.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, maintenance personnel, and outside vendors.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to respond effectively during emergency situations.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness and follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Demonstrate initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience rebuilding pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other industrial equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair boilers, compressed air systems, water systems, ammonia systems, dryers, packaging equipment, and production machinery.
  • Proficient in using electrical testing equipment, multimeters, and diagnostic tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, electrical schematics, construction drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Welding experience with stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Routine stair climbing and work at varying heights.
  • Use of computers, measuring instruments, testing devices, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical and instrumentation work.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to elevated temperatures, high noise levels, moving machinery, chemicals, steam, and wet or slippery surfaces.
  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, respirators, and hearing protection as required.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to live steam, heated water, and other industrial process equipment.
