Join a dedicated and supportive anaesthesia team working closely with the Head of Department and fellow clinicians at Gisborne Hospital, delivering high-quality care to the Tairāwhiti community. We’re looking for motivated Specialist Anaesthetists to contribute to a full range of services in a vibrant, community-focused setting.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
We are looking for an Anaesthetist with clinical experience in some or all of the areas outlined above. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and culturally competent clinician, committed to delivering high-quality care and improving health equity in our region.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Elective and emergency surgery
- Pre-operative assessment clinics
- ICU, HDU, and ward-based peri-operative care
- Stabilisation and transfer of critically ill patients
- Pain management advice
- After-hours cover for maternity, theatres, critical care, and ED
- Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff
- Participation in the on-call roster
We are looking for an Anaesthetist with clinical experience in some or all of the areas outlined above. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and culturally competent clinician, committed to delivering high-quality care and improving health equity in our region.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING:
- You will hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in the Scope of Practice of Anaesthesia, or be eligible for Provisional Vocational registration if trained overseas.
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) is preferred for applicants from New Zealand or Australia, but not essential for overseas-trained candidates.
- Experience in paediatric anaesthesia and/or critical care is an advantage.
- A strong commitment to health equity and providing culturally safe care, particularly for Māori communities.
