Senior System Administrator

About the Company

Davidson Technology are working with a Large State Government Department to secure an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support and enhance the windows, SQL and Web server platforms that underpin their applications, on an initial 12-month contract.


About the Role

As the Senior Systems Administrator, you’ll be responsible for the administration, optimisation, and strategic enhancement of enterprise Microsoft hosting environments that support critical business applications. You will provide advanced technical expertise across Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, Azure and AWS platforms, ensuring the stability, security, performance, and availability of infrastructure through provisioning, configuration, monitoring, patching, automation, and troubleshooting. Leveraging technologies such as PowerShell, Terraform, Azure Runbooks, GitHub Actions, Active Directory, and Microsoft Operations Manager. You’ll drive infrastructure automation and cloud service delivery while maintaining comprehensive system and design documentation. In addition to operational responsibilities, you will lead complex system upgrades, migrations, and technology implementations, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement, contribute to infrastructure strategy by evaluating emerging technologies, and provide technical leadership, mentorship, and governance to support the delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure IT services.


About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll be a technically capable IT professional with strong experience supporting Windows operating systems and Microsoft SQL Server environments, complemented by the ability to develop intermediate to advanced PowerShell scripts to automate administration, configuration, and operational tasks. Experienced in using GitHub for source control and version management, you’ll apply a structured and analytical approach to troubleshooting while effectively managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes. With excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, you will work collaboratively across technical teams while also operating independently to resolve issues and implement solutions. You’ll be committed to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and service improvement, with exposure to modern DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, Azure Runbooks and Git workflows, as well as cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS. Relevant cloud certifications, including Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect and AWS Certified Solutions Architect, are highly regarded and demonstrate the capability to support modern hybrid infrastructure environments.


The Benefits

You will be offered a 12-month contract (possible 12-month extension) on an excellent hourly rate and the ability to negotiate a flexible working arrangement for the duration of the assignment.
