Quantity Surveyor

Apply directMost QS seats hand you one scheme and one narrow lane. This one hands you the whole commercial cycle, reporting straight to the person who runs it.
You won't be a QS a few rungs down feeding numbers up and rarely seeing the commercial lead. You report directly to them, you chair your own CVRs with the site team, and you take that work forward yourself. For a QS who wants breadth and ownership rather than one tunnel-vision project, that's the appeal.
What the role actually is
A commercial QS role across a water maintenance business, working into the regulated water sector and the non-regulated side alongside it. The remit is broad:
- Weekly WIP reporting, kept current
- Subcontract payments, subcontract management, and reviewing subcontract terms and conditions as work comes in
- Chairing CVRs with the site team and taking the commercial picture to senior leadership yourself
- Commercial input on the non-regulated division as tenders come through
It's fast-paced with real deadlines, so a lot of the skill is breaking the work down and staying ahead of it, so the deadline itself is just review and submission.
What it takes
Strong, genuine Excel capability. Not "familiar with", properly strong. That one isn't negotiable here. NEC3 TSC exposure is a real advantage. Subcontract management is central, so you'll want to be comfortable owning it. Beyond that, organised people who communicate clearly and hold a lot of moving pieces without dropping any do well here.
Water sector experience is ideal and transfers cleanly, but it's not a hard gate.
