An established national law firm is looking for an experienced Practice Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operational performance of its practices.
Working closely with senior leadership, Partners and central support functions, this is a broad role encompassing people leadership, practice performance, workflow management, financial performance, client service and continuous improvement.
This would suit an experienced Practice Manager, Operations Manager or senior professional services leader who enjoys being close to the day-to-day running of a business and can balance people leadership with commercial and operational accountability.

The Role
You will be responsible for ensuring the practices operate effectively, matters progress appropriately and teams have the structure, support and accountability needed to perform.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day operational management of the NSW and TAS practices
- Managing team workloads, capacity, resourcing and allocation of work
- Monitoring matter progression, workflows, deadlines and practice performance
- Leading regular one-on-ones and team meetings and supporting performance management
- Monitoring productivity and performance against established KPIs
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, probation and employee development
- Monitoring WIP, billing, recoveries, aged matters and broader practice performance
- Working closely with Partners and leadership to address operational and financial issues
- Maintaining high standards of client service and assisting with escalated concerns
- Supporting risk, compliance, file audits and quality assurance processes
- Partnering with HR, Finance, Operations, Risk & Compliance, Systems and Training
- Identifying opportunities to improve workflows, systems, productivity and client experience
- Supporting broader business improvement and change initiatives
You will bring proven experience leading teams and operational performance within a professional services environment. Legal sector experience would be highly regarded, although candidates from similarly professional services businesses will also be considered.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in a Practice Manager, Operations Manager, Office Manager within legal or professional service firm
- Strong people leadership and performance management capability
- Experience managing KPIs, workflows and operational performance
- Commercial awareness and working with financial measures such as WIP, billing and productivity
- Previous experience improving processes and driving operational efficiencies
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work closely with senior leaders
- A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving
- High levels of professionalism, discretion and accountability
