A well‑established and rapidly expanding Radiology service in the Wellington Region is seeking Consultant Radiologists to join their team. This opportunity offers the chance to work in a progressive, technology‑driven department while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of New Zealand’s capital.
About the Role
The Radiology service is undergoing substantial growth in response to increasing demand and national healthcare priorities. To support this expansion, additional Consultant / Senior Medical Officer (SMO) positions have been created across the department.
The service has also invested heavily in its wider workforce, expanding numbers of Registrars, Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs), and MRI Technologists. This growth supports timely access to imaging, service resilience, and improved equity of care across the population.
A defining feature of this role is the service’s commitment to innovation. The department is among the first in Australasia to adopt Photon Counting CT (PCCT) technology, with one scanner currently operational and a second planned for installation in 2026. This next‑generation technology is set to significantly enhance cardiac, neuro, vascular, and paediatric diagnostics, enabling ultra‑high‑resolution imaging beyond the capability of conventional CT.

The appointment is within a large regional Radiology service delivering both tertiary and secondary imaging across multiple hospital sites in the greater Wellington area.
The service provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures and supports acute, specialist, and regional referral services. The Radiology department includes Consultant Radiologists, Registrars, MITs, and Sonographers, with a strong focus on education, professional development, and collaboration across specialties.

- Reporting and supervising diagnostic imaging lists (CT, MRI, Ultrasound)
- Participation in fluoroscopy procedures in line with individual subspecialty skills
- Contribution to and leadership of multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs)
- Close collaboration with referring clinicians
- Teaching and supervision of radiology trainees (RANZCR Years 1–5)
- Participation in the diagnostic radiology on-call roster as required

- Vocational registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)

- Cardiothoracic or cardiac imaging
- Musculoskeletal (MSK)
- Paediatrics
- Breast imaging
- Interventional radiology
- A genuine interest in teaching and supporting radiology trainees and medical students
- Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary clinical teams
