Job Title: Head of Commercial Operations (Solar PV Project Delivery)
Location: Hybrid – Dublin office with site and client travel (Ireland)
Salary: Competitive / DOE
Summary:
Gi Group is hiring for a senior, hands-on Head of Commercial Operations to lead the end-to-end delivery of commercial Solar PV projects from sales handover through installation, commissioning and client sign-off. This role sits between Sales and commissioning, owning project delivery performance, partner management and the operating model required to scale a high-volume commercial delivery function. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, standardise processes, and ensure projects are technically robust, fully compliant, efficiently delivered and commercially successful.
Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of commercial Solar PV projects from sales handover through installation completion, commissioning and client sign-off
Act as the operational owner for project success, overseeing quality, programme, budget, health & safety and compliance
  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent commercial and industrial (C&I) projects, ensuring clear scope, technical clarity, risk management and minimal variation
Ensure a smooth transition from Sales to Operations with standardised handover packs and clear decision gates
  • Lead and develop the commercial operations function across engineering, project control and project management
  • Define roles, responsibilities, workflows, KPIs and reporting rhythms; hold teams accountable for delivery
  • Recruit, mentor and develop team members as project volumes grow, building a high-performing operations unit
  • Build and manage relationships with third-party installation partners, ensuring alignment on technical requirements, quality and safety standards
  • Challenge and support partners to protect programme, safety, quality and margin
  • Own pre-construction activities including engineering design input, technical review and constructability checks
Lead grid/NC applications, coordinate planning requirements where applicable, and oversee health & safety planning and documentation
  • Ensure projects are fully de-risked prior to mobilisation with clear design, scope and responsibilities agreed
  • Standardise designs, documentation and technical processes to reduce errors, delays and rework
  • Design, implement and continuously improve operational processes to support growth and scalability
  • Work with internal systems (ERP/project tracking tools) to improve visibility, cost control, forecasting and decision-making
  • Develop a repeatable “delivery playbook” to increase project volume without compromising quality or safety
  • Use data and metrics to identify bottlenecks, improve cycle times and enhance project profitability
  • Provide technical and operational input to Sales on complex/high-value opportunities and support bids with realistic delivery plans and risk identification
Challenge scope, programme or commercial terms where they risk safety, quality or margin

Requirements:

  • Qualification and/or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Solar PV or a closely related discipline
  • Strong understanding of commercial Solar PV systems and typical C&I project configurations
  • Knowledge of grid connection processes and NC applications
Strong understanding of electrical design, standards and compliance requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Irish regulatory and health & safety requirements in a construction environment
  • Proven experience delivering commercial Solar PV or construction projects, ideally C&I scale with multiple concurrent sites
  • Strong pre-construction and technical planning experience, including design review and constructability
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing external installation partners/subcontractors
  • Track record of improving delivery processes, reducing delays and/or increasing project margins
  • Strong leadership and ownership mindset, comfortable taking full responsibility for outcomes
  • Confident decision-maker able to balance speed, quality and risk, and to challenge stakeholders when needed
  • Highly organised, structured and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-growing environment where processes are evolving
  • Full driving licence (essential)

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation package including additional benefits such as life assurance, company saving scheme, and employee discounts for friends and family
  • Annual wellbeing allowance and enhanced sick pay scheme
  • Early finish every Friday, paid volunteer days, and Good Friday as a company day (not taken from annual leave)
  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced life-cycle policies (e.g., career break, enhanced family leave, paid marriage leave)
  • Supportive team culture and ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-evolving sector contributing to Ireland’s decarbonisation and energy resilience goals
