Senior Firmware Engineer, C++ Integration

The Onboard Platforms team is an embedded software team responsible for the development and maintenance of the OS, software, and firmware for the compute platform powering our L1/L2/L3 autonomous vehicle compute clusters. The RTOS and applications team is specifically responsible for creating and maintaining our safety monitors to uphold our functional safety. This team leads the hands-on enablement of Jacinto/TDA4 safety diagnostics.
 What you’ll do: 

• Drive implementation, integration, and testing of critical safety features on RTOS R5 firmware in a complex SoC environment.
• Develop and maintain low-level drivers through a Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), ensuring designs scale across hardware targets and RTOS configurations.
• Debug complex system-level issues — including race conditions, memory faults, and peripheral misbehavior — directly on ECU hardware using bench tools such as Trace32 and serial consoles.
• Perform code reviews ensuring pull requests are focused, correct, and adhere to established coding standards.
• Collaborate with functional and feature owners to produce designs that clearly fulfill stated requirements.

What you'll need to succeed:

• Strong proficiency in modern C++— extensive use of advanced language features.
• Solid experience with ARM-based SoC architectures and firmware development in RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS, or equivalent).
• Hands-on experience building or maintaining Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) to support multiple hardware targets.
• Fluent with bench debugging tools (Trace32, serial consoles) and confident debugging directly on ECU hardware.
• The discipline to land changes with accompanying unit and integration tests — testing is treated as a core part of delivery, not an afterthought.

Nice to have:

• Functional safety mindset (ISO 26262): familiarity with safety manuals, assumptions of use, and supplying evidence for certification reviews.
• Familiarity with Bazel-based monorepo builds.
• Experience with MPU configuration, DMA controllers, or hardware firewall setup in multi-core SoC environments.
• Background collaborating with OEM functional-safety teams or contributing to safety cases.
• Python scripting for tooling, automation, or test infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Ethernet and lightweight IP (LwIP) in an embedded RTOS context.
• Demonstrated experience bringing up TI Jacinto (TDA4/TDA4VH/TDA4AP) or similar automotive SoCs at the register level, including TRM-guided peripheral initialization.
