About the opportunity
A major Australian media business is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join its Enterprise Data team and build high-performing data products while reducing complexity across its data systems and models. Working closely with Product on data publishing, you'll help process hundreds of millions of events a day from the organisation's leading news and publishing brands, and centralise enterprise data in the data warehouse to inform business operations and strategy.

The role
  • Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and models that extract, load and transform data from multiple sources into the data warehouse
  • Lead and guide solution designs, making sure the team understands the technical "why" and "how", and document them to build collective knowledge
  • Champion engineering best practices across coding, DevOps and metadata standardisation
  • Bring AI tools into daily workflows for code suggestions, data profiling and automated testing
  • Partner with Product Managers, Cyber Security and Platform Engineering to shape data solutions and resolve incidents
What you'll bring
  • Fluency in Python and SQL, with a deep understanding of OLTP and OLAP schema design
  • Proven experience leading the design of data pipelines and managing infrastructure with tools such as Apache Airflow and dbt
  • Proficiency with a major cloud platform (GCP, AWS or Azure) and CI/CD solutions such as Cloud Build or Concourse
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, and the ability to use AI to support engineering tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to lead technical discussions and build consensus across cross-functional teams
Highly regarded: a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, and a deep understanding of cloud migration strategies, best practices and pitfalls.
