Head of AI Risk

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of AI Risk to establish and lead the organization's AI risk management framework. This role will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating risks arising from the development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative AI technologies.

The successful candidate will work across business, technology, legal, compliance, cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory teams to ensure AI systems are deployed responsibly, ethically, securely, and in compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.

This is a highly visible leadership position, responsible for shaping the organization's approach to AI governance while enabling innovation and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

AI Risk Governance & Strategy

• Develop and implement the enterprise AI Risk Management Framework.
• Establish AI governance processes, policies, standards, and controls.
• Define AI risk appetite and tolerance levels in partnership with executive leadership.
• Lead AI risk committees and governance forums.
• Advise senior management and Board committees on AI-related risks and emerging regulatory developments.

AI Risk Assessment & Oversight

• Design and oversee AI model risk assessment methodologies.
• Conduct risk reviews of AI and generative AI use cases before deployment.
• Assess risks relating to:
  • Model performance and reliability
  • Bias and fairness
  • Explainability and transparency
  • Privacy and data protection
  • Intellectual property
  • Security and cyber threats
  • Hallucinations and misinformation
  • Third-party AI providers
  • Monitor AI risk indicators and establish reporting dashboards.

Responsible AI & Regulatory Compliance

• Lead Responsible AI initiatives across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with applicable AI regulations, industry guidance, and internal policies.
• Interpret evolving global AI regulations and translate requirements into operational controls.
• Support regulatory engagements, audits, and examinations related to AI governance.

Model Risk Management

• Oversee the inventory, classification, and lifecycle governance of AI and machine learning models.
• Define validation requirements and approval processes.
• Ensure ongoing monitoring and periodic model reviews.
• Partner with model development teams to ensure robust testing and documentation

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Law, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Master's degree preferred.

Experience

• 10+ years of experience in Risk Management, Technology Risk, Model Risk Management, AI Governance, Cybersecurity, Compliance, or related disciplines.
• 5+ years in leadership roles managing teams and enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Experience implementing AI governance frameworks within financial services, technology, healthcare, telecommunications, consulting, or other regulated industries.
• Experience engaging senior executives, regulators, and auditors.
