Apply direct Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Aerospace Crate Builder to construct custom shipping crates and packaging solutions for aerospace components. This role is responsible for measuring, cutting, assembling, and securing wooden crates that meet customer specifications and industry standards to ensure the safe transportation of high-value aerospace parts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Build custom wooden crates, pallets, skids, and shipping containers according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Measure, cut, and assemble lumber using hand and power tools such as saws, nail guns, drills, and pneumatic equipment.
- Package aerospace components using foam, blocking, bracing, cushioning, and other protective materials.
- Read and interpret blueprints, packaging specifications, and shipping instructions.
- Inspect finished crates to ensure they meet quality, dimensional, and customer requirements.
- Safely move materials using pallet jacks, forklifts, or overhead cranes (if certified).
- Label and prepare completed crates for domestic and international shipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following OSHA and company safety standards.
- Report damaged materials, equipment issues, or quality concerns to supervisors.
- Assist with inventory of lumber, hardware, and packaging supplies as needed.
- Meet daily production goals while maintaining high quality standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in crate building, carpentry, woodworking, packaging, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to read tape measures and perform basic math calculations.
- Experience reading blueprints or technical drawings is preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic equipment.
- Forklift certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain certification).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves.
Preferred Skills
- Carpentry or woodworking experience.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or industrial packaging.
- Knowledge of export packaging and crating standards.
- Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or overhead cranes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- May require overtime and occasional weekend work based on production schedules.
