About the Company

Our client is a large, well-established organisation with operations across Australia and New Zealand. With the scale and structure of a major corporate environment, they offer excellent employee benefits, established systems and processes, and genuine opportunities for internal career progression.

Due to an internal promotion, an opportunity has become available for a Payroll Audit & Compliance Officer to join their experienced payroll function based in Milton.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for someone with payroll experience who enjoys the auditing, compliance and investigative side of payroll rather than simply processing pay runs. Working alongside a team of payroll professionals, you will play an important quality-control role between HR and Payroll. Your focus will be reviewing and validating employee information before it flows through for payroll processing, ensuring changes are accurate, appropriately authorised and compliant.

Importantly, this role does not process payroll. Instead, you will audit employee master data, identify discrepancies and work closely with HR to resolve issues before they have an impact on employees' pay.

The role will include:

  • Reviewing and validating new employee set-ups, including positions, employment conditions and pay rates
  • Auditing employee changes before they are released to Payroll
  • Reviewing permanent and temporary remuneration increases
  • Checking higher duties and acting arrangements
  • Validating position changes, transfers and cost centre changes
  • Ensuring effective dates, rates and supporting information are correct
  • Identifying errors, missing information and inconsistencies in employee data
  • Investigating unusual transactions and determining what needs to be corrected
  • Maintaining accurate employee master data and appropriate audit trails
  • Working closely with HR to resolve incorrect or incomplete information
  • Liaising with Payroll to ensure validated information is available within payroll deadlines
  • Identifying recurring data-quality issues and supporting improvements to processes and controls

The Benefits

  • $90,000–$95,000 plus superannuation
  • 14% employer superannuation
  • Work from home every Tuesday
  • Flexible start times from 7:30am
  • 25% annual leave loading, paid each December
  • Annual remuneration reviews each January
  • TOIL accrual
  • Genuine internal career opportunities, with this position becoming available due to an internal promotion

About You

You will ideally come from a payroll background and have a strong understanding of employee master data and the information required to ensure employees are paid correctly. You may be an experienced Payroll Officer looking to move away from high-volume processing into a role focused more heavily on audit, compliance, controls and data integrity.

You will have excellent attention to detail and be naturally inclined to question information that doesn't look right, rather than simply processing what has been provided. You will also be comfortable following up with HR and other stakeholders when information is incomplete or incorrect.

The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment screening, including a criminal history check and drug and alcohol testing.
