Apply directPosition Description Position Title: Business Services Manager Department: Business Services / Tax Advisory Location: Adelaide CBD Reports To: Director / Principal Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Direct Reports: Accountants & Bookkeepers (AU & PH) Date: 31 October 2025 Role Purpose The Business Services Manager leads a portfolio of SME clients and a multi-location delivery team to provide high-quality compliance and proactive advisory services. Success in this role blends technical tax capability, commercial acumen, people leadership, and process discipline within Archer’s Kaizen culture of continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities 1) Client Advisory & Relationship Management • Act as primary contact for a portfolio of high-value clients across diverse industries. • Deliver strategic tax planning, structuring, and business advisory tailored to each client’s goals and risk profile. • Run regular client meetings (virtual and in-person) to review performance, present insights, and agree action plans. • Maintain clear, proactive communication with timely file notes and follow-ups in FYI Docs. 2) Compliance Oversight • Review and sign off on: annual financial statements and income tax returns (individuals, companies, trusts); BAS/IAS; FBT; payroll tax; and other regulatory lodgements. • Apply current Australian tax law and ATO guidance accurately (e.g., Div 7A, PSI, UPEs, CGT rollovers, SGC, Division 296, STP Phase 2). • Liaise with the ATO and other regulators on behalf of clients, preparing responses and managing reviews efficiently. • Ensure complete and orderly digital files: all workpapers and supporting Excel files are saved to FYI Docs on completion (not left in Active Workpapers). 3) Team Leadership & Development • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of accountants and bookkeepers (Australia & Philippines). • Conduct technical reviews with constructive feedback; provide on-the-job training and scheduled knowledge shares. • Set clear expectations, allocate work, monitor capacity, and run effective WIP/huddle meetings. • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, probation reviews, and performance appraisals. 4) Technology & Process Improvement • Champion our cloud stack: Xero (including XPM), FYI Docs, Dext, Employment Hero, Clockify, Aider.ai, Syft, and Practice Protect. • Identify automation and standardisation opportunities; document improvements in playbooks and drive adoption. • Contribute to selection, implementation, and best-practice use of new apps aligned to Archer’s goals. 5) Business Development & Practice Growth • Identify and scope value-add engagements (forecasting, cash-flow, pricing reviews, tax planning, board reporting). • Support proposals, pricing, and onboarding; maintain scope discipline and change-of-scope documentation. • Represent Archer at networking events and strengthen referral relationships. • Contribute ideas to service evolution, including links to Archer Sports Advisory where relevant. 6) Risk, Quality & Information Security • Adhere to CA ANZ standards and Professional Standards Legislation; follow Archer’s review/sign-off protocols. • Maintain accurate job planning, file notes, and approvals in FYI; protect client data per Practice Protect policies. • Ensure billing, WIP, and debtor processes are timely, transparent, and well-communicated to clients. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) • Timeliness & Quality: 100% lodgements on or before due dates; <2% rework rate on reviewed files. • Client Outcomes: Portfolio retention ≥95% by fee; • People: Quarterly check-ins completed; training delivered (≥2 sessions/quarter); positive upward feedback. • Systems Discipline: 100% of completed workpapers filed in FYI; playbook improvements logged each quarter. Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce. • CA or CPA qualified. • 5+ years in public practice with recent managerial/supervisory experience. • Strong working knowledge of Australian tax legislation, ASIC/ATO requirements, and regulatory compliance. • Demonstrated success managing client relationships, leading teams, and reviewing complex f iles.
