Mechanical Engineering Director - APAC
$250,000 - $300,000 + Bonus
For senior mechanical engineers navigating the consultancy grind, this role offers a genuine alternative. No BD targets, no billable timesheets, no revenue management. Instead, you step into a Technical Authority seat, directly owning the engineering roadmap for a 300MW+ APAC hyperscale rollout.
You will get hands-on with cutting-edge AI liquid-to-chip and immersion cooling technologies at a scale very few organisations can offer globally, all while holding a strategic Director title without the commercial pressure that typically comes with it. Flexible working arrangements mean you choose the mix of home and office that works for you.
What you'll do
You'll lead the mechanical engineering strategy for hyperscale data centre projects, ensuring the delivery of industry-leading facilities. You'll drive speed, scale, sustainability and improved ROIC across AI liquid-to-chip, mechanical, fire, hydraulic and controls engineering. This covers the full lifecycle from feasibility, design review and consultant management through to construction, commissioning and building tuning.
What you'll need
Our client is a major publicly listed, industry-leading provider of premium data centres. Having built a highly successful colocation footprint across Australia, the business is now undergoing a significant expansion into the hyperscale market, partnering directly with the world's largest global cloud providers.
Their growth pipeline includes multiple hundred-megawatt campus builds across domestic tier-1 and regional markets, with further international expansion planned across the broader APAC region. This is an organisation with genuine scale, long-term ambition, and the financial backing to deliver on it.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Fire, or Hydraulic Engineering. Chartered Professional Engineer or RPEQ status is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in mission-critical data centre design, typically 10 or more years at senior level.
- Deep technical expertise in AI liquid-to-chip cooling and high-density mechanical systems.
- Proven experience producing and reviewing fully coordinated Revit-MEP models, energy models, and cost analyses.
- A highly technical "out-and-out engineer" profile: someone energised by engineering detail rather than commercial or BD management.
- Strong ability to communicate complex design principles to internal stakeholders and major cloud clients such as AWS and Microsoft.
