Position Overview

The client is seeking a Clinical Informaticist to support the implementation, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support of the hospital’s electronic health record (EHR). This position serves as a liaison between clinical staff and information technology personnel to help ensure that EHR functionality supports clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and high-quality patient care. The Clinical Informaticist will report directly to the Director of Clinical Informatics and will collaborate closely with other team members to support the hospital’s clinical and technological ecosystem. Serves as a key member of the EHR implementation team and collaborates with executive leadership, clinical leaders, operational leaders, and vendor representatives.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Support the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and ongoing optimization of the hospital’s EHR across multiple clinical domains.
  • Analyze clinical and operational workflows and translate end-user needs into system functionality, configuration requirements, and process improvements.
  • Design, build, and maintain clinical documentation tools (e.g., templates, order sets, and clinical decision support) aligned with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in system testing activities, including unit testing, user acceptance testing, go-live readiness, and post-implementation optimization.
  • Provide training, guidance, and at-the-elbow support to clinical staff to promote EHR adoption and effective use of the system.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, data quality, and patient care outcomes through workflow redesign and system optimization.
  • Participate in EHR project planning, governance, and implementation workgroups.
  • Coordinate clinical stakeholder engagement throughout design, build, testing, training, go-live, and stabilization phases.
  • Assist in development and execution of implementation timelines, issue tracking, risk mitigation, and change management activities.
  • Facilitate workflow design sessions and translate clinical requirements into system specifications.
  • Support cutover planning and go-live command center activities.
  • Experience supporting organizational change management, stakeholder engagement, user adoption strategies, and workflow transformation initiatives.

Qualifications
Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required in Nursing, Health Informatics, Clinical Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related healthcare field.
  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Information Systems, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare operations, clinical informatics, EHR implementation, health information technology, or clinical systems support.
  • At least two (2) years of direct involvement in an EHR implementation, optimization, upgrade, or conversion project strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with EHR platforms such as WellSky, Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or other enterprise healthcare systems.
  • Direct clinical practice experience (e.g., nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology), preferred but not required.
  • Certification or advanced education in health or clinical informatics is preferred (i.e., Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS), ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification (RN candidates), Project Management Professional (PMP), Prosci Change Management Certification, Registered Health Information Administrator/Technician (RHIA/RHIT)).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical workflows and healthcare operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience leading training sessions across various levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to guide adoption of new technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare compliance, patient privacy laws (HIPAA0 and quality reporting

Additional Skills and Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of clinical workflows and healthcare delivery processes across inpatient or comparable healthcare settings.
  • Working knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) and health information technology.
  • Experience in long-term acute care hospital, behavioral health, psychiatric, forensic, long-term care, state hospital, or correctional healthcare settings preferred.
  • Ability to analyze clinical and operational processes and translate findings into system or workflow improvement recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and technical resources, serving as a liaison between disciplines.
  • Ability to support system implementation, training, optimization, and change management initiatives.
  • Familiarity with clinical device integration workflows (e.g., IV pumps, bedside monitoring devices) and their interaction with the EHR, including supporting clinical workflows, documentation, and issue triage in collaboration with technical teams.
  • Ability to participate in occasional on-site meetings at hospital locations as needed to support EHR implementation and optimization activities.
