We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our client, an inner Melbourne local council, on a short-term contract. Reporting to the Team Leader Payroll Services, and working within a team, you will help deliver an accurate, on-time fortnightly pay for 1,000+ staff.
This role has a potential to be extended till March/April 2027.

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our client, an inner Melbourne local council, on a short-term contract. Reporting to the Team Leader Payroll Services, and working within a team, you will help deliver an accurate, on-time fortnightly pay for 1,000+ staff.
This role has a potential to be extended till March/April 2027.
Key responsibilities
- Process the fortnightly payroll for 1,000+ staff, accurately and on time
- Produce superannuation, leave, WorkCover and monthly reports
- Run the payroll helpdesk and resolve queries quickly
- Calculate terminations and long service leave transfers
- Interpret award and enterprise agreement entitlements and advise managers and staff
- Support superannuation schemes and ATO reporting
- Keep payroll registers, checklists and work instructions up to date
- Proven high volume payroll experience, including award and entitlement interpretation
- Solid understanding of tax, super and WorkCover requirements
- Local government experience and Aurion HRM knowledge (desirable)
- Sound Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and stay calm under tight deadlines
