Design Manager

AWX Executive is proud to present an exceptional opportunity for a Design Manager to play a defining role on a landmark, high-rise mixed-use development in Surfers Paradise.

This is not a conventional design management position. It is a chance to shape a project that will leave a lasting architectural imprint on the Gold Coast skyline — balancing design elegance, commercial precision, and construction reality.

The Opportunity

Working on the client/developer side, you will sit at the intersection of vision and delivery — guiding the design narrative from concept through to construction completion.

Embedded within a lean, highly experienced and forward-thinking team, you will act as the critical connector between consultants, internal stakeholders, and construction partners — ensuring every design decision is buildable, commercially aligned, and architecturally compelling.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion the design process across all phases — from feasibility through to delivery
• Provide hands-on input into design direction, ensuring alignment with project vision and market positioning
• Drive design quality, coordination and consultant performance
• Lead design resolution throughout the construction phase, maintaining alignment with approved documentation, programme and cost parameters
• Collaborate closely with contractors and consultants to resolve complex site-based challenges in real time
• Oversee the preparation of design and construction tender packages
• Review submissions to ensure alignment with design intent, cost objectives and buildability
• Partner with construction teams to ensure clear, coordinated and effective documentation
• Act as the key interface between development, design and delivery teams
• Contribute to broader project outcomes, including market positioning and commercial success
• Balance aesthetics, compliance, cost and functionality across all design decisions
• Navigate regulatory frameworks (ADG, BCA) with confidence
• Continuously refine design outcomes to meet evolving project and market demands

About You

• 10+ years’ experience in architecture or design management
• Proven client-side or developer-side experience on large-scale projects
• Strong track record managing design through construction
• Deep understanding of codes, construction methods, and technical documentation
• Proficient in tools such as Revit, ArchiCAD or SketchUp
• A hands-on, solutions-focused leader who thrives in complexity
• Naturally collaborative, commercially aware, and creatively driven
