We are seeking a degree-qualified Mechanical Project Engineer / Project Manager to join a well-established engineering consultancy delivering complex industrial upgrade projects across Victoria.
This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale heavy industrial process and equipment upgrades, taking ownership of projects from design through to commissioning. The role combines hands-on mechanical engineering with project management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical problem-solving and leading project delivery.
Initially offered as a 12-month contract, there is strong potential for extension based on project workload and performance.
The Role Reporting to the Senior Project Manager and Engineering Team Leader, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects, including:

• Managing mechanical engineering projects from concept through to commissioning
• Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and suppliers
• Developing and reviewing mechanical designs, calculations and engineering documentation
• Preparing scopes of work, technical specifications and tender documentation
• Managing procurement, contractor performance and site activities
• Monitoring project budgets, schedules, risks and reporting
• Supporting commissioning activities and ensuring quality outcomes
• Building strong relationships with clients and key project stakeholders

Project Exposure You'll work across a variety of heavy industrial upgrade projects, including:

• Mechanical and structural modifications to existing plant
• Pressure piping, hydraulic, compressed air and water systems
• Equipment upgrades and replacement projects
• Basic structural steel, platforms and equipment support structures
• Cross-disciplinary coordination with electrical, controls and instrumentation teams

About You We're looking for an engineer who combines strong technical capability with proven project delivery experience.
You will ideally have:

• Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
• Experience delivering industrial, manufacturing, mining, metals, energy or process plant projects
• Previous experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer or Project Manager
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, piping systems and industrial equipment
• Experience managing contractors, budgets, schedules and project risk
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• AutoCAD and/or 3D modelling experience (advantageous)
• Knowledge of AS4041 pressure piping or industrial structural design (desirable)
