The opportunity

In a brand new role and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Child & Family Services, the Executive General Manager – Practice & Operational Excellence is a critical executive leadership role responsible for leading national practice uplift across a complex, multi-jurisdictional child and family services portfolio.

A genuine second to the COO, the role will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure services are safe, compliant, therapeutically informed, child-centred and financially sustainable. Working closely with State General Managers and national practice, clinical, compliance and business performance leaders, you will strengthen practice consistency, frontline capability and service quality across jurisdictions.

This is a significant opportunity to lead practice reform at national scale. The role will oversee the embedding of therapeutic and trauma-informed practice frameworks, safeguarding, quality assurance, clinical governance, audit, risk and continuous improvement. A key focus will be ensuring systems and supports are in place to strengthen the voice of the child, placement stability, permanency planning, cultural safety and high-quality outcomes for children, young people, families and carers.

Alongside this practice leadership remit, the Executive General Manager will drive operational excellence and business improvement initiatives that support consistent, sustainable service delivery. This includes partnering with operational leaders to improve workforce capability, service performance, compliance, reporting and financial sustainability.

The Executive General Manager will also play a key role in building trusted relationships with government, regulators and sector stakeholders, while fostering a high-performing, accountable and values-aligned leadership culture across the organisation.

The role will be based in Sydney or The Hunter and will require regular interstate travel.

You have led practice improvement at scale and understand how to translate frameworks, standards and regulatory obligations into consistent frontline practice. You are comfortable partnering with operational leaders to strengthen practice capability, improve service quality and ensure children, young people, families and carers receive safe, culturally responsive and outcomes-focused support.

Alongside your practice expertise, you bring the operational discipline required to lead sustainable improvement.
