A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Shipping Disputes lawyer for a role based in its Singapore office. This is an opportunity to work within a well-regarded shipping practice advising owners, charterers, and operators across a broad range of maritime disputes.

About the Role
This is a Singapore-based position within the firm's Shipping/Marine Trade & Energy practice. The team advises on a broad range of shipping and maritime disputes, including charterparty disputes, cargo claims, and casualty matters, with experience across arbitration (LMAA, SCMA, LCIA, SIAC, ICC) and litigation before the English courts. The position also carries a transactional component, covering vessel sale and purchase and ship finance work, alongside the primary disputes focus. Work spans a client base of shipowners, charterers, operators, traders, and underwriters, largely North Asian and international names.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on shipping and maritime disputes, including charterparty issues, cargo claims, and casualties
  • Manage arbitration and litigation matters across multiple jurisdictions and institutional rules
  • Handle vessel sale and purchase, and ship finance transactions alongside the disputes caseload
  • Work directly with senior partners on complex, cross-border mandates

Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified in England and Wales; a further qualification (e.g. US/NY Bar) is an advantage
  • Junior associates from a general disputes/litigation background looking to pivot into shipping disputes are welcome to apply
  • Korean language proficiency would be an advantage, given the firm's Korean-speaking client base.
  • Comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions and time zones

Location: Singapore only (role is based in and requires relocation to Singapore)
