About the Role
As Senior Media Officer (APS6), you will join a pool of marketing and communications professionals providing flexible, responsive support across Agency work plan projects.
You will develop and implement strategic media and communications materials that support Agency activities, products and strategic narratives. Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will help ensure communications are accurate, consistent and aligned with strategic objectives and stakeholder needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, implementing and evaluating media and communications strategies, plans and campaigns
- Crafting compelling narratives and positive media stories
- Providing expert media advice to senior executives, spokespeople, subject matter experts and stakeholders
- Managing complex and sensitive media issues and responding professionally to media enquiries
- Producing strategic content for internal and external audiences and channels
- Monitoring, analysing and reporting on media performance, trends and engagement
- Managing media and communications projects from inception through to delivery
- Building productive relationships across government, media, industry and community stakeholders
- Identifying communications risks and opportunities and contributing to effective issues management
- Working collaboratively across the Agency to deliver high-quality communications outcomes.
You will exercise a high degree of independence, initiative and judgement, while managing competing priorities and delivering quality work in an environment where requirements can change quickly.
The position can be based in Brisbane, Canberra or Sydney. It is a five-day-per-week role with a rotation of weekend on-call duties, with an estimated 37.5-hour working week. Some remote work may be considered once established, and travel and work outside normal business hours may be required.
About You
You are an experienced media and communications professional who understands the contemporary media landscape and can confidently operate in a complex, high-profile environment.
- A degree in Journalism, Media and Communications, Marketing or another relevant field
- A minimum of five years’ experience in media relations, journalism or external communications
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing effective media and communications strategies
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to develop clear and compelling narratives
- A detailed understanding of the current media landscape
- Experience managing competing priorities and delivering effectively under pressure
- Outstanding organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and build productive relationships
- The ability to analyse media engagement and performance and translate insights into recommendations
- Sound judgement, initiative and discretion when managing complex or sensitive matters
- A collaborative approach combined with the ability to self-manage and progress work independently.
Australian Citizenship is a condition of eligibility. You must also be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, with the capacity to obtain a higher clearance if required, and obtain and maintain a national police check.
