APS6 Senior Performance and Evaluation Officer

This is a role for someone who wants performance and evaluation work to influence real decisions.

Davidson is seeking an experienced Senior Performance & Evaluation Officer to join a major Australian Government program focused on sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and environmental outcomes.

You’ll work across a large-scale national portfolio of 178 projects, backed by significant government investment and focused on improving productivity, building resilience and increasing natural capital.

You won’t simply collect data and produce reports.

You’ll work with teams across the organisation to strengthen how performance is measured, evaluated and communicated. You’ll turn complex program information into clear evidence that supports policy, program and operational decisions.

For someone with strong monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), performance reporting or program management experience, it’s an opportunity to work at scale and see your insights contribute to nationally significant programs.


What you’ll be doing

You’ll take a lead role across performance reporting and evaluation, including:

• managing corporate and program performance reporting
• strengthening monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting approaches
• analysing performance information to identify insights and lessons
• developing evidence-based advice for program and policy decision-making
• contributing to program reviews, evaluations and learning initiatives
• identifying opportunities to improve performance and evaluation practices
• developing practical MEL tools and guidance
• preparing clear briefs, reports, talking points and presentations
• building productive relationships across internal and external stakeholder groups
• potentially supervising a small team of up to three people.

What will help you succeed

You’ll be someone who can take complex information and make it useful.

You’ll bring experience in program management, program performance reporting and/or monitoring, evaluation and learning, supported by strong analytical thinking and sound judgement.

You’ll also be able to demonstrate:

• experience leading or supervising a small team
• the ability to work with limited direction and manage competing priorities
• strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills
• confidence working collaboratively across multiple teams
• strong stakeholder engagement skills
• excellent written communication, with the ability to write clearly for different audiences
• professionalism, accountability and a focus on continuous improvement.

Practical experience applying MEL concepts and tools will be particularly valuable. Experience in natural resource management or sustainable agriculture is well regarded, but it isn’t essential.


The opportunity at a glance

Contract: 12 months, with potential extension of up to 10 months
Rate: $70–$80 per hour + super
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Australia-wide
Flexibility: Partial work from home or flexible arrangements may be negotiated
Travel: Occasional regional and remote travel may be required
Clearance: Baseline security clearance required
Proposed start: 12 October 2026
