About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Transformational Gifts, the Manager, Philanthropy plays a critical leadership role in advancing the organisation’s mission through the development of meaningful, high-value philanthropic relationships in line with the fundraising strategy. This position is responsible for driving sustainable income growth by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donors including securing seven-figure gifts, and building strong, long-term relationships with philanthropic stakeholders. Combining strategic thinking with hands-on relationship management, the appointee will ensure that philanthropic investment is aligned with organisational priorities and delivers measurable social impact. Collaborating with internal stakeholders to translate programmatic needs into compelling funding propositions, the appointee will build long-term partnerships grounded in trust, transparency and shared purpose, and through disciplined pipeline management, strong market intelligence, and exceptional donor engagement, contribute, to revenue diversification, multi-year funding security, and the overall growth of the philanthropy portfolio. The role is also responsible for achieving financial and non-financial targets, inspiring a national team that is tasked with acquiring new strategic relationships, and driving revenue growth and retention. Critical to success is building team capabilities and optimising ROI performance, while ensuring contemporary best practice processes. 

About you

You are an experienced philanthropy or major gifts leader with demonstrable experience securing seven-figure gifts. You bring leadership experience, ideally across a geographically dispersed team, and possess the commercial and strategic capability to manage a multi ten-million-dollar portfolio of philanthropic revenue. Your stakeholder management skills are well developed, and you present with the gravitas and executive presence required to engage ultra-high-net-worth individuals and their intermediaries. You have the ability to navigate a large complex organisation and to work collaboratively and collectively with this framework. You may come from a large charity, higher education, health or medical research, other relevant philanthropic sectors, or a high-net-worth relationship management background in wealth or private banking where your skills translate meaningfully into the welfare sector. You thrive on operating within a values-led, mission-driven organisation where you can meaningfully impact and transform people’s lives.
