WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT
- Serve as the hands-on accounting leader for the Dayton operation, owning the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and supporting the Controller in preparing timely, GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Own monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet and income statement accounts, along with bank reconciliations, fixed assets, payroll entries, credit card and expense reconciliations, and intercompany chargebacks
- Oversee AP, AR, billing and collections to keep vendor payments timely and customer invoicing accurate
- Manage and develop the Cost Analyst and Accounts Payable Specialist
- Analyze performance against budget and prior periods, identify variances and recommend corrective actions to improve profitability and reduce unnecessary spend
- Partner with the CFO on the annual operating plan and budget by entity, and deliver ad-hoc analysis to support strategic decisions
- Support external audits and due diligence, conduct periodic internal audits, and develop policies and controls that reduce fraud and compliance risk
- Work with the outside CPA firm on tax returns and ensure timely remittance of payroll, property and other tax obligations
- Help implement and maintain financial systems while protecting data security and integrity
- Lead office operations and administration, including facilities, vendors, licenses and permits, fleet registrations, company records, onboarding and offboarding logistics, and regulatory and compliance documentation
THE BACKGROUND THAT FITS
- 5+ years of construction accounting experience preferred
- Experience in a union environment, including union payroll and fringe benefit reporting
- Strong command of GAAP, month-end close, account reconciliations and job cost accounting
- Experience supervising accounting staff
- Sage Intacct and Yooz experience strongly preferred
- CFMA certification (CCIFP) highly desired
- Strong Excel skills and comfort with financial analysis and variance reporting
- Highly organized and dependable, with the flexibility to balance technical accounting work with broad administrative responsibility
