An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Respiratory Physiologist to join a progressive and expanding Respiratory Physiology Department within a leading private healthcare provider in Galway.
We are seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused professional with significant experience in sleep diagnostics and respiratory physiology laboratory services. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic investigations while supporting the continued development of an advanced respiratory and sleep service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret a comprehensive range of respiratory physiology investigations, including spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer (DLCO), bronchial challenge testing and overnight oximetry.
- Lead and deliver high-quality sleep diagnostic services, including the setup, scoring and interpretation of ambulatory and laboratory-based sleep studies.
- Demonstrate expertise in the investigation and management pathway for sleep-disordered breathing, including CPAP initiation, troubleshooting and patient education.
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the respiratory physiology and sleep laboratory, maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance and equipment calibration.
- Work collaboratively with Respiratory Consultants, Sleep Physicians and the multidisciplinary team to provide an efficient, patient-centred diagnostic service.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare detailed technical reports.
- Participate in service development, clinical audit and implementation of best practice.
- Support, mentor and supervise junior physiologists and contribute to ongoing staff education and training.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Clinical Measurement Science, Clinical Physiology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Eligibility for professional registration/accreditation relevant to respiratory physiology.
- A minimum of five years' post-qualification experience in respiratory physiology.
- Extensive experience in performing and analysing respiratory function tests.
- Significant experience in sleep diagnostics, including polysomnography and cardiorespiratory sleep studies.
- Experience working within a dedicated respiratory physiology and sleep laboratory.
- Excellent knowledge of quality assurance, laboratory standards and equipment maintenance.
- Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Candidates must have current permission to work in Ireland or be eligible to obtain the appropriate employment permit and registration required to work in Ireland.
Desirable
- Experience with CPAP therapy initiation and follow-up clinics.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff.
- Participation in clinical audit, research or service improvement initiatives.
