About the Company

Our client, a large and complex organisation, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead their high-performing payroll function on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced payroll leader who enjoys balancing operational leadership with strategic projects and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Head of Payroll, you'll oversee the successful delivery of high-volume payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand while leading an established team. You'll work closely with HR, Finance and key business stakeholders to ensure payroll compliance, improve processes and contribute to payroll transformation initiatives across the organisation.
Working within a complex payroll environment using SAP, you'll play a key role in optimising payroll operations, driving system enhancements and ensuring best-practice payroll governance and service delivery across both regions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of high-volume payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand using SAP.
  • Manage, mentor and develop an experienced payroll team.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and in accordance with Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and statutory requirements.
  • Drive payroll governance, compliance and risk management across the payroll function.
  • Lead payroll-related projects, including SAP enhancements, legislative changes and payroll transformation initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency, strengthen controls and enhance service delivery.
  • Partner with HR, Finance and IT to deliver payroll projects and business improvement initiatives.
  • Manage complex payroll escalations and provide technical payroll expertise.
  • Review payroll reporting, controls and audit requirements to ensure ongoing compliance.
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience leading a payroll team within a large, complex, high-volume environment.
  • Experience managing payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand is highly regarded.
  • Strong experience using SAP within an enterprise environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and payroll compliance. Exposure to New Zealand payroll legislation will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience leading payroll projects, system upgrades or transformation initiatives.
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and streamline payroll processes.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to coach and develop teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational excellence.
