Employment Lawyer

This role will allow you to work closely with experienced employment partners on meaningful disputes work, without being siloed. This role offers direct client exposure, varied files and the chance to sharpen both advocacy and advisory skills. You will step into a steady flow of work across disputes and advisory, with support where needed and space to take ownership as you progress.

You will work alongside senior lawyers on employment disputes while also handling advisory matters across a diverse client base. The work includes advocacy, personal grievances and day to day employment advice.

There is a good balance between guidance and autonomy, allowing you to build confidence and technical depth at pace.

Duties 

• Employment disputes and litigation
• Personal grievance processes
• Restructuring and redundancy advice
• Employment agreements and workplace policies
• Compliance with employment legislation
• Draft submissions, agreements and correspondence
• Advise clients on risk, process and strategy
• Manage files with increasing autonomy
• Support mediations, negotiations and hearings
• Build and maintain client relationships

Skills & Experience
You will be a New Zealand qualified and admitted lawyer with 4+ years PQE and employment law exposure. You will be comfortable with both disputes and advisory work. You will have strong drafting skills and be a confident and clear communicator, who is able to manage competing priorities independently. 

You’ll be part of a down-to-earth, commercially focused team where partners are accessible and actively involved in the work. The environment is collaborative rather than hierarchical, with an open-door approach and a genuine emphasis on sharing ideas and feedback.

There is a strong focus on developing lawyers through hands-on experience, not just supervision. You’re given responsibility early, with support when you need it. Flexibility and wellbeing are taken seriously, and the firm takes a pragmatic approach to how people work day to day.
