Piping Designer

Senior Mechanical / Piping Designer About the role An established engineering project team is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical / Piping Designer to support the delivery of a major resources sector project.
Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will be responsible for planning, developing and reviewing mechanical and piping design deliverables, producing detailed design documentation, and supporting project execution from concept through to construction.
You will work closely with engineers, designers, project teams and stakeholders to coordinate technical activities, resolve design challenges and ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the work of piping designers and drafters.
• Develop plant layouts, detailed 2D and 3D design models, and construction drawings.
• Produce mechanical and piping designs for complex process and industrial facilities.
• Prepare and assist with material requisitions, technical bid evaluations and design estimates.
• Review design deliverables to ensure compliance with project standards, industry codes and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in model reviews, constructability reviews and design workshops.
• Develop and maintain design and drafting procedures to support consistent project execution.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to manage design interfaces and resolve technical issues.
• Conduct site visits as required to support construction activities and interpret drawings and documentation.
• Review and assess design scope changes and provide input to project management.
• Prepare progress reports and support project planning activities.

About you To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Diploma qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Design Drafting or a related discipline.
• Approximately 8-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical and piping design within the resources, mining, minerals processing, energy or heavy industrial sectors.
• Strong understanding of piping design principles, drafting standards and engineering documentation.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments.
• Demonstrated capability managing interfaces across engineering disciplines and 3D design models.
• Proven experience developing piping layouts, equipment models and associated plant infrastructure.
• Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and vendor documentation.
• Knowledge of engineering materials and their application in industrial facilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders.

Technical requirements Essential:

• Advanced proficiency with Smart 3D (S3D) for intelligent piping design and modelling.
• Experience generating and checking piping isometrics.
• Experience modelling mechanical equipment and piping systems in industrial plant environments.
• Strong understanding of 3D model coordination and clash management.
