Welder/Fabricator

We are looking for an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join an ongoing project in the Tauranga area.

This is a hands-on role for a skilled tradesperson with strong TIG welding, stainless steel and fabrication experience who is confident taking a job from preparation through to completed fabrication and finishing.

You will work from engineering drawings, accurately measure and prepare materials, fabricate and fit components, complete high-quality welds, and ensure finished work meets required dimensional and quality standards.

The initial contract runs through to the end of the year, with a strong possibility of extension for the right person depending on performance and ongoing project requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

• TIG welding, particularly stainless steel
• MIG welding and other welding processes where required
• Fabricating stainless steel and carbon steel components
• Reading and interpreting engineering and fabrication drawings
• Measuring, marking, cutting and preparing materials
• Setting up, fitting and tack welding components
• Fabricating brackets, frames, supports and other components
• Working with pipe, tube, sheet and structural materials
• Modifying and repairing existing components
• Grinding, finishing and preparing welds to a high standard
• Fitting and assembling fabricated components
• Carrying out general mechanical and fabrication work
• Troubleshooting and making practical fabrication adjustments
• Checking completed work against drawings and measurements
• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work area
• Working effectively with other trades and project team members

What We’re Looking For
You will ideally have:

• Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator
• Strong TIG welding skills
• Good stainless steel welding experience
• Experience working with carbon steel
• Strong fabrication and fitting skills
• Ability to confidently read and interpret drawings
• Accurate measuring and material preparation skills
• Good understanding of welding and fabrication processes
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• High attention to detail
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision
• Strong practical problem-solving skills
• Reliable work ethic and positive attitude
• Pride in producing high-quality workmanship

Industry Experience
Previous experience within dairy, food processing, manufacturing, industrial processing or similar environments would be advantageous, particularly where stainless steel fabrication and high-quality workmanship are required.
However, this is not essential. Candidates with strong welding and fabrication experience from other industries are encouraged to apply.
