Alcohol Duty Manager

JOB SUMMARY
Our client, an established café, is expanding its operations to include a new bar service and is seeking an experienced Alcohol Duty Manager to assist with the setup and launch of the new operation. This is a hands-on role for someone with strong hospitality experience who can confidently oversee staff, manage alcohol service, and help establish processes as the venue expands.

LOCATION & EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

• Location: Christchurch, New Zealand 
• Employment Type: Part-Time, approximately 36 hours per week
• Work Schedule: Wednesday to Sunday
  • Wednesday: 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Thursday: 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Friday: 10:00am – 8:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am – 8:00pm
  • Sunday: 10:00am – 4:00pm

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role suits an experienced Duty Manager, Supervisor, or Senior Hospitality professional who can work closely with the venue team and management to help get the new bar operation up and running smoothly. You'll take a hands-on approach, overseeing responsible service of alcohol, supporting staff throughout service, and helping establish processes as the venue expands into bar service.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as the Duty Manager during assigned shifts
• Supervise and support café and bar staff
• Assist with the setup and commencement of the new bar operation
• Help establish and implement alcohol service processes
• Oversee responsible service of alcohol and ensure staff follow venue requirements
• Support and guide staff throughout service
• Manage day-to-day operational issues as they arise
• Ensure the venue operates efficiently and professionally
• Assist with opening and closing procedures
• Maintain high standards of customer service
• Work closely with management to ensure the new bar operation is successfully established

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Supervisor, or Senior Hospitality professional
• Current Victorian Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualification
• Any required current Victorian liquor licence / approved duty manager qualification relevant to the role
• Strong hospitality experience within a café, restaurant, bar, or similar environment
• Experience with alcohol service and responsible service requirements
• Confidence to supervise and support a hospitality team
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Hands-on approach to hospitality
• Ability to take responsibility and work independently
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• Professional and customer-focused attitude
• Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday across the required hours
