Program Management Office (PMO) Assurance Officer

Chandler Macleod is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Program Management Office (PMO) Assurance Officer to support the delivery of critical capability programs within a highly secure Federal Government environment.


This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic PMO team responsible for providing assurance, governance, reporting, risk oversight, test and evaluation support, and performance monitoring across a complex project and program portfolio. You will work closely with project teams, technical specialists and senior stakeholders to ensure capability outcomes are delivered effectively, risks are managed, and governance obligations are met.


This role is ideally suited to a PMO, Assurance, Governance, Risk, Portfolio Management or Program Management professional who enjoys working in complex delivery environments and driving continuous improvement across project and portfolio performance.

About the Role In this position, you will:

• Support assurance activities across projects, programs and portfolios to provide confidence in capability delivery outcomes.
• Coordinate assurance reviews, governance activities and reporting requirements across multiple workstreams.
• Undertake testing, assessments and analysis activities to evaluate project performance and delivery confidence.
• Support capability test, evaluation and readiness activities.
• Engage with project, program and technical stakeholders to gather, analyse and evaluate complex information.
• Contribute to executive reporting, portfolio insights and governance documentation.
• Apply established assurance frameworks, methodologies, processes and controls.
• Support portfolio reporting and decision-making through research, analysis and performance monitoring.
• Assist with identifying delivery risks, issues, opportunities and improvement initiatives.
• Support the continuous improvement of assurance, governance and portfolio management practices.

Key Responsibilities Risk Assurance

• Maintain portfolio risk registers and reporting products.
• Monitor risk treatments, mitigation activities and reporting obligations.
• Analyse project and program risks, identifying trends, emerging issues and escalation requirements.
• Support effective risk management and assurance practices across the portfolio.

Financial Assurance

• Assist with assessments of project financial performance, affordability and funding utilisation.
• Analyse project financial information and contribute to portfolio-level reporting and insights.
• Support assurance reviews of business cases, investment proposals and financial governance activities.

Test and Evaluation Assurance

• Coordinate and support test and evaluation assurance activities.
• Assist with readiness assessments and evidence collection activities.
• Monitor assurance actions and maintain assurance records and documentation.
• Contribute to reporting that supports capability readiness and deployment confidence.

Delivery Health and Benefits Assurance

• Support project and program health assessments through analysis of delivery performance information.
• Monitor benefits realisation activities and improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to portfolio performance reporting and trend analysis.
• Support assurance reviews that improve program delivery outcomes and governance effectiveness.

Key Criteria to be Successful To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Experience supporting PMO, portfolio, program or project assurance functions within complex delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of governance, assurance, risk management and portfolio reporting practices.
• Experience conducting assessments, reviews and analysis to support project and program oversight.
• Ability to evaluate project performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise complex information from multiple sources.
• Experience preparing executive reports, governance documentation and assurance findings.
• Ability to apply frameworks, methodologies, policies and standards consistently across delivery activities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within Defence, National Security or Federal Government environments.
• Knowledge of project assurance, quality assurance, test and evaluation frameworks.
• Exposure to portfolio management, program delivery and enterprise governance practices.
• Experience supporting benefits realisation, delivery health assessments and performance reporting.
• Understanding of risk management and project financial assurance processes.
• Experience working within complex ICT or capability delivery programs.

Security Requirements

• Current TSPV Security Clearance is mandatory.

Role Details

• Position: Program Management Office (PMO) Assurance Officer
• Locations: Canberra ACT, Melbourne VIC, Brisbane QLD
• Working Arrangement: Onsite
• Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
• Contract: 12-Month Initial Contract + 12-Month Extension Option
• Start Date: January 2027
