Schedule: Wednesday-Friday 7pm-7am and every other Saturday (12 hour shifts)

Position Summary

The Doffer works at the finishing end of a nonwoven fiber production line and supports the Lead Operator with safe, efficient production. The main responsibility is to remove completed rolls from the line, inspect them, and package and load them according to the customer order.
In plain terms: when a roll of fiber material is finished, the Doffer safely takes it off the wind-up end of the line, checks it for visible defects, packages and labels it, and prepares it for the next step based on the work order.

Primary Responsibilities

• Read the production schedule, work order, and pick list to confirm the correct material, tube core, packaging, and customer requirements.
• Remove completed rolls from the production line (the process known as doffing).
• Visually inspect the fiber and finished rolls for quality concerns and notify the Lead Operator or Shift Manager of any problems.
• Package, label, and load finished material exactly as required by the customer order.
• Keep the correct tube cores, packaging materials, and other production supplies stocked and ready for use.
• Assist with production-line setup and operation as directed by the Lead Operator, and learn the purpose of the basic mechanical and electrical components of the wind-up equipment.
• Remove processed waste and scrap and place it in the designated area.
• Follow all safety requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures, and report unresolved safety concerns to the Shift Manager.
• Keep the production line and surrounding work area clean, organized, and safe.
• Communicate clearly with the Lead Operator, Shift Manager, and other team members to help meet production goals.
• Perform other production duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, write, and follow work instructions, production schedules, pick lists, safety procedures, and diagrams.
• Basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measure and interpret process-control charts.
• Basic computer skills to complete equipment setup entries and enter production information.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, use good judgment, and work with limited supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, dependable attendance, and the ability to work effectively with others.

Physical Requirements

This is an active manufacturing position. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to handle materials; reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally sit. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Close vision is required for inspection work.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise, heat, vibration, fumes, airborne fibers or particles, and moving mechanical equipment. Employees must follow required safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and work cooperatively with coworkers.
