Construction Officer - Road Construction

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated and safety-focused Construction Officer to join a dedicated road construction and maintenance team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating plant and equipment, and contributing to the delivery and maintenance of essential community infrastructure.

The successful candidate will assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, footpaths, drainage systems, bridges, and associated assets while working as part of a collaborative and professional team.

About the Role Reporting to the Team Leader – Road Construction, you will undertake a variety of construction and maintenance activities, including:

• Road, roadside, footpath and cycleway construction and maintenance
  
  
• Pothole repairs, shoulder and road edge maintenance
  
  
• Pipe laying, culvert installation and drainage works
  
  
• Concreting, kerb and gutter construction, and finishing works
  
  
• Sign installation and maintenance
  
  
• Traffic control activities
  
  
• Operation of plant and equipment including spray trucks, concrete mixers, concrete saws, compressors, mowers and power tools
  
  
• Completion of work orders, timesheets and safety documentation
  
  
• Participation in continuous improvement initiatives and team objectives
  
  

This position may require occasional work outside normal business hours.

What We're Looking For Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in general construction and maintenance activities associated with roads and roadsides
  
  
• Experience performing a range of physical labouring duties
  
  
• Sound verbal and written communication skills
  
  
• Ability to safely operate minor plant and equipment
  
  
• Current Class C Driver Licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles
  
  
• Construction Industry White Card
  
  
• Current Hepatitis A and B immunisation, or willingness to participate in an immunisation program
  
  

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Certificate II in Civil Construction
  
  
• Experience in road maintenance operations
  
  
• Experience operating a range of construction plant and equipment
  
  
• Strong digital literacy and experience using tablets, smartphones and related applications
  
  
• MR Driver Licence
  
  
• Chainsaw Level 1 (Crosscut) certification
  
  
• Traffic Controller accreditation
  
  
• Implement Traffic Control Plans accreditation
  
  
• Confined Spaces certification
  
  
• Working Near Overhead Powerlines accreditation
