Assistant Quantity Surveyor

The best way to learn the commercial side of construction is to do it on real projects, next to someone who knows it cold. That's this role.

A Tier 1 multi utilities contractor is hiring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor into its connections team, working across power and water. You'd work directly alongside an experienced QS, cutting your teeth on live schemes and learning the trade properly rather than from the sidelines.

What you'd be doing

You'd support the QS on the commercial side of connections schemes, with cost value reconciliation at the heart of it. Helping build and maintain the CVRs, tracking cost against value, and getting a proper feel for how a job is run commercially from the inside. The projects are varied and they move, so you'll see a lot in a short space of time.

Who it suits

This is for someone early in their commercial career, or someone in a related role who wants to move into quantity surveying and is ready to graft to get there. You might be studying, recently qualified, or working in a junior site or commercial role and looking for the step that actually takes you somewhere. What matters most is that you're keen, you're good with numbers, and you want to learn.

What you need

Not a long list. A genuine interest in the commercial side of construction, a head for numbers, and the attitude to get stuck in and ask questions. The rest can be taught, and you'll have someone there to teach it.

Location and package

Based in Sale, just outside Manchester, so it works well for anyone across the North West. We'd sooner talk the salary and the development support through with you directly than reduce it to a headline number.
