Solutions Architect

Shape solution architecture across a major technology transformation within the higher education sector.

We’re looking for an experienced Solution Architect to define solution designs, architecture specifications and governance artefacts across a large-scale technology modernisation program.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working across business and technical stakeholders, translating complex requirements into practical solution designs and providing the architecture that engineering, integration and delivery teams can build from.

The organisation is modernising its data environment, strengthening data governance and controls, and building the foundations to take advantage of future AI opportunities.

About the Role:

• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into clear solution specifications and architecture designs.
• Develop and maintain architecture documentation across application, data, integration, security and technology viewpoints.
• Define logical integration requirements, including systems, data flows, business events, latency and failure considerations.
• Develop identity and access architecture, including identity providers, federation, role models and conditional access requirements.
• Prepare Architecture Decision Records, documenting options, recommendations, evidence, approvals and consequences.
• Ensure solution designs remain aligned with governance requirements, security considerations, vendor constraints and broader architectural decisions.
• Produce architecture artefacts to support governance, security assessments, risk reviews and project controls.
• Work closely with business stakeholders, engineers, integration architects, security specialists and other technical teams to ensure solutions are clearly defined and fit for purpose.
• Contribute to the ongoing modernisation of the organisation’s data and technology environment, including future data and AI capabilities.

About You:

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect or Enterprise Architect within complex technology environments.
• Strong experience translating business and technical requirements into detailed solution designs and specifications.
• Strong understanding of application, data, integration, security and technology architecture.
• Experience defining integration patterns, data flows and logical integration specifications.
• Experience with identity and access architecture, including federation, role-based access and conditional access.
• Strong architecture documentation and governance experience, including Architecture Decision Records and formal design artefacts.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across business, technical and governance teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance requirements, constraints, risks and architectural considerations.
• Experience working within enterprise, government, higher education or other large-scale transformation environments is highly desirable.
• Experience across Microsoft, Azure, modern data platforms, data governance or Microsoft Fabric would be advantageous.
• TOGAF or similar architecture framework experience/certification would be advantageous.
