Senior Estimator – Construction & Fitout

An established and growing construction and trade services business is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to strengthen its construction and fitout capability.

This is a newly created role driven by growth. You’ll join two talented developing estimators and become the senior technical presence within the team – remaining hands-on with estimating while providing guidance, structure and mentoring.

The opportunity

This isn’t a role where you’ll step away from estimating to purely manage people. You’ll be actively involved in tenders while helping improve the overall quality and sophistication of the estimating function.

You’ll take responsibility for:

• Leading and preparing construction and fitout estimates and tenders from initial review through to submission
• Producing accurate cost plans, take-offs, labour and material build-ups and subcontractor pricing
• Improving the quality of tender submissions, including methodologies, programmes, qualifications and supporting documentation
• Reviewing commercial risks, scope gaps, assumptions and margin before submission
• Providing practical guidance and mentoring to two developing estimators
• Developing and improving estimating software, systems, templates and cost information
• Working closely with operations to ensure successful tenders transition effectively into project delivery
• Building strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and key internal stakeholders

About you

You’ll be an experienced estimator who has remained close to the construction and fitout market in recent years and still enjoys being hands-on.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Strong recent estimating experience across commercial construction, fitout or refurbishment projects
• Confidence managing tenders from initial documentation through to final submission
• Strong understanding of construction costs, subcontractor packages, programmes and commercial risk
• Experience producing high-quality tender methodologies and documentation
• The ability to review and improve estimating processes and systems
• The capability to mentor less experienced estimators without needing to formally “manage” them
• A calm, considered and collaborative approach
