We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator / Infrastructure Engineer to support modern infrastructure environments across cloud, on-premises, Linux, automation and container-based platforms.
The role will work within a technical infrastructure team responsible for maintaining reliable development, testing, staging and production-support environments. The successful candidate will help administer infrastructure services, improve automation, support deployment readiness, maintain monitoring and security controls, and assist technical teams with stable and repeatable environment operations.
This position is suited to an infrastructure professional with a strong systems administration background and practical experience in cloud platforms, Linux, infrastructure automation, containerised environments, CI/CD workflows and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the operation and administration of internal infrastructure services across cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments.
- Configure, maintain and improve Linux-based systems and infrastructure platforms used by development, testing and operational teams.
- Assist with the setup and ongoing management of AWS infrastructure, including compute, networking, IAM, security groups, load balancing and managed database services.
- Support the creation, configuration and maintenance of development, test, staging and production-support environments.
- Use infrastructure automation tools to improve consistency, repeatability and reliability of environment provisioning and system configuration.
- Work with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation or similar technologies to support infrastructure and configuration automation.
- Support containerised infrastructure and application hosting environments using technologies such as Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS and Amazon ECR.
- Maintain and improve CI/CD and deployment workflows, including build support, release packaging, artefact management and deployment configuration.
- Create and maintain operating system images, container images and related configuration assets for internal infrastructure use.
- Monitor infrastructure health, system availability, performance, logs, alerts and capacity using observability and monitoring platforms.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues affecting infrastructure, deployment workflows, system configuration, application hosting environments and service availability.
- Support backup, recovery, restore validation and resilience activities for infrastructure services, configuration data and database platforms.
- Contribute to infrastructure security activities, including access control, network security, encryption, key and secret management, vulnerability remediation and security monitoring.
- Assist with security, auditing, logging and operational controls for internal systems and services.
- Develop scripts and operational tooling using Bash, Python or similar scripting languages to reduce manual administration effort and improve support processes.
- Work with software development, testing, architecture, cyber security and operations teams to support reliable, secure and well-managed technology environments.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, configuration records, support runbooks and infrastructure diagrams.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in a Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, Cloud Systems Engineer, DevOps Engineer or similar infrastructure-focused role.
- Strong Linux systems administration experience, preferably across Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat or similar distributions.
- Practical experience supporting AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure environments.
- Experience working with on-premises, hybrid or enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management or Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation or similar.
- Experience supporting containerised environments using Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS or related technologies.
- Experience with CI/CD concepts, deployment workflows, artefact management and release support processes.
- Good understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing, security groups and network security controls.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting and visualisation tools used to support infrastructure reliability and operational visibility.
- Experience with infrastructure security practices, including access management, key and secret management, vulnerability remediation, patching and secure configuration.
- Experience supporting backup, restore and operational maintenance activities for infrastructure services and database platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, cloud services, networking, deployment workflows and application hosting environments.
- Good documentation skills and ability to maintain clear operational and technical records.
- Ability to work collaboratively with development, testing, cyber security, architecture and infrastructure teams.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with DataDog, AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana or similar observability platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS or similar database platforms.
- Experience with remote site, industrial, mining, operational technology or air-gapped infrastructure environments.
- Experience with GitHub administration or software repository management.
- Exposure to AWS Lambda, Node.js-based internal tooling or backend integration support.
- Relevant professional certifications such as AWS, Linux, Kubernetes or similar infrastructure/cloud certifications would be highly regarded.
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification, preferably a bachelor degree or higher, in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

You are a hands-on infrastructure professional with a strong systems administration foundation and practical experience supporting modern cloud, automation and container-based environments.
You are comfortable working across Linux systems, AWS infrastructure, automation tooling, deployment workflows, monitoring, security and operational support. You can analyse technical issues, improve repeatable processes, support reliable environments and work effectively with technical teams in a fast-moving infrastructure environment.
