2027 UUSA Design Engineer Intern

Chosen candidate will work with mentors in the Engineering department on real projects that directly impact UUSA’s enrichment and Net Zero initiative. The purpose of the job is to provide the engineering intern with an opportunity to gain knowledge in a nuclear regulated facility to learn the operating processes of engineering within the nuclear enrichment plant. Possible opportunities include designing modifications to the operating plant, ensuring plant functionality, obsolesce of components critical to plant operation, and/or construction activities in building or upgrading an existing facility. The opportunity will be able to provide a unique ability to experience engineering required behind one critical aspect of the nuclear fuel cycle.

The Design Engineer Intern will design changes to the plant which will involve design documentation, design reviews, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. Any design change documentation will be with design engineering. This involves electrical, mechanical, and structural engineers to ensure that all design documents and specifications are met for the site.

Our Hiring Process
We are accepting applications NOW through November 1st, 2026. Our internship is highly competitive and will have different process stages during the application phase.

Program Summary

• May 2027 through August 2027 (11 weeks) internship program
• Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the program
• Work location: Eunice, NM
• Supplementary group learning sessions
• One on one mentoring
• Opportunities for presentations and high level networking

Compensation

• Paid Internship $21/hour paid bi-weekly
• Company sponsored Housing & Utilities

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university pursuing a 4 year degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
• 2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Essential Functions

• Basic Engineering Principles with core concepts involving power systems, electronics, programming, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mechanics, material balances, mass balances, structural, or construction engineering.
• Ability to collect, interpret, and present engineering data effectively .
• Have the ability to think creatively to improve processes or develop new approaches.
• Will be involved in diagnosing issues in designs or systems and proposing viable solutions.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Well-rounded individuals who have participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and high energy.
• Ability to start on the designated start date.
• Must be organized, positive and have a professional demeanor.
• Must be detail oriented and possess good time management skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficient in use of MS Office suite: Excel, Word, Power Point, OneNote, Teams and Visio.
• Willingness to absorb new technologies, tools, and methods quickly.
• Ability to adapt to different tasks, environments, and team dynamics.
